Give A Dog A Bone
Sidney, Australia - With this season's taping
of the FOX comedy , "Ally McBeal"
complete, Calista Flockhart, who portrays "Ally" on the show, after being
invited by co-star Portia DeRossi to join her on a two week outing in Australia's outback,
flew to the island nation on what was expected to be a relaxing vacation after the
grueling schedule to film the series was completed. DeRossi, a native of Australia, asked
Flockhart to accompany her; Flockhart, having never visited the country agreed, and the
pair arranged the trip soon after. The two inlisted friends of DeRossi to act as guides on
a three day excursion into the outback, and the trouble began soon after, as it was
reported that during a morning hike into the wilderness, a pack of wild Dingoes suddenly
sprang from the brush, and commenced dragging Flockhart from the trail. Members of the
party immediately gave chase, but lost sight of the actress shortly therafter. Not sure of
how to proceed, members of the party secured from several Aborigine tribesmen, who elected
not to be identified, assistance in locating Flockhart. After a twenty minute search, they
reportedly located the wild dogs and observed them digging franticly at the ground where
Flockhart lay, in an apparent attempt to bury the diminutive actress. Having been
surprised by the presence of the rescue party, the busy canines retreated, and Flockhart
was quickly unearthed. After a hasty examination, Flockhart was found to be uninjured,
with the exception of minor scrapes and cuts. The hysterical actress was rushed back to
the city of Sidney for further examination, where her condition is said to be good.
Speaking with animal behaviorist Wilhelm Frockt, reporters quoted him as saying, "I
don't really think her [Flockhart's] life was ever in danger. I don't believe these
animals intended on harming her, rather they were acting on thousands of years of
primitive instinct" DeRossi later told reporters that she had attempted to visit
Flockhart, but was unable, quoting, "I tried, but she wouldn't see me"
