Plans To Trim Budget Next Season: Ally McBeal Too Costly Says FOX

No sooner than the final episode of the hit FOX comedy “Ally McBeal” completed taping; writer/producer David E. Kelly held an emergency meeting with the show’s executives to devise a strategy to deal with the spiraling expenses incurred in it’s production. “By the end of this season, we were just breaking even”, said Frank Giousi, assistant producer. Though the meeting was behind closed doors, The Weekly Cynic learned from inside sources, some of the details of the discussion. The following is a list of some of the costlier expenses of the past season.

Calista Flockhart: IV glucose drip

$300.00/day

Greg Germann:  Cheri, Leg Show, and Swank subscriptions

$250.00

Gil Bellows: Amphetamines

$90/day

Courtney Thorne Smith: Midol®

$150/week

Peter McNicol: Bullfighting, Gymnastic, and Skydiving lessons

$180.00/hour

Rosie O’Donnell: Specially fitted trailer rented from set of “Free Willy III”

$900.00

Portia DeRossi: Clairol Shampoo

$1,290.00/season

Diane Cannon: Formaldehyde

$200/gallon

While representatives of the show refused comment on the details discussed in the meeting, insiders revealed some of the proposed solutions included Sunny Delight for Flockhart, ONE subscription to National Geographic for Germann, and vinegar for Cannon. With those adjustments, managers of the show were confident they would free enough of the budget to keep Bellows in Black Beauties, and additionally, pay for O’Donnell’s face liposuction before the talk show host’s eyes swelled completely shut.
